Bolivia’s president calls for debt relief for poor countries

Bolivia’s President Luis Arce called on Saturday for a global deal to reduce poor countries’ debt at a summit in Mexico, where he and other leaders are seeking to shore up a new diplomatic bloc in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The leaders of Latin American and Caribbean countries met at the invitation of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, with the stated aim of weakening the diplomatic bloc of the Washington-based Organization of American States, which excludes Cuba.
In an opening speech at the summit, Arcey called for strengthening the alternative bloc, the Latin American and Caribbean Group.
He spoke about the worldwide distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and other social policies to support the region’s poor.
