Breaking | Ceasefire Agreement Reached in Suwayda Amid Rising Tensions and Calls for Defiance
U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, announced late Friday night via his official account on X (formerly Twitter) that a ceasefire agreement had been reached in Suwayda between local factions and armed groups from tribal and Bedouin backgrounds, reportedly supported by Syrian local militias.

In his post, Barrack stated that the ceasefire was brokered between Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with direct U.S. support and endorsement from Turkey and Jordan.
The agreement calls on all fighting parties—including Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis—to lay down their arms and engage in efforts to build a unified Syrian identity, emphasizing mutual respect, cooperation, and peace both domestically and with neighboring countries.
Field Developments Amid Ceasefire Announcement in Suwayda
Local reports indicated that Syrian Ministry of Defense checkpoints began blocking the flow of fighters toward Suwayda by cutting off the Daraa–Suwayda and Damascus–Suwayda roads. Social media accounts reported that the ceasefire agreement includes a withdrawal deadline from all battlefronts by Saturday at dawn.
However, several tribal factions involved in the fighting have rejected the ceasefire, and calls for mass mobilization continue to circulate widely on social media. As of this writing, there has been no official confirmation from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the ceasefire.
