Damascus – Beijing: A 20-Year Strategic Economic Step to Develop Infrastructure
The General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports in Damascus has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company Fidi Contracting, granting it the full investment rights to the free zone in Homs Governorate’s Al-Hassia area, covering approximately 850,000 square meters. The memorandum also includes granting investment rights over 300,000 square meters in the free zone in Adra, Rif Damascus Governorate, aimed at developing commercial and service projects that meet local and regional market needs.

According to an official statement by the Syrian Authority, the contract duration is twenty years. The investing company is committed to implementing the project phases according to a specified timeline to ensure economic feasibility and enhance the role of free zones as a key driver for development and attracting foreign direct investment. This initiative is part of the Authority’s efforts to revitalize free zones and attract foreign capital, especially from friendly countries, with the goal of creating job opportunities, transferring technology, and increasing trade volume through land and maritime ports.
