The head of Egypt’s State Information Service, Diaa Rashwan, confirmed on Thursday that reports circulating on some media platforms and social networks regarding the Egypt Israel gas deal are inaccurate in their political interpretation.
Rashwan stressed that the agreement under discussion is a purely commercial contract concluded according to market rules and international investment standards, with no political arrangements or understandings involved.
No Political Context Behind the Agreement
According to Rashwan, the Egypt Israel gas deal should not be viewed through a political lens, noting that it is governed solely by economic logic and investment mechanisms common in the global energy sector.
He emphasized that any attempt to link the deal to political agendas is misleading and does not reflect its true nature.
International Energy Companies Involved
Rashwan explained that the parties to the Egypt Israel gas deal are well-known international energy companies, including US-based Chevron, alongside Egyptian companies specializing in gas reception, transportation, and trading.
He added that these contracts were signed without direct government intervention and fall within standard commercial and legal frameworks.
Strategic Economic Benefits for Egypt
The agreement, Rashwan said, serves Egypt’s strategic economic interests by reinforcing its role as the only regional hub for gas trading in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Egypt relies on advanced infrastructure, including liquefaction plants and gas transportation networks, supported by major investments that ensure sustainable operation and maximize economic returns.
Infrastructure Provides Flexibility and Independence
Rashwan highlighted that Egypt possesses a fully integrated natural gas infrastructure that allows it to diversify gas supply sources and partners without external pressure or restrictions.
This infrastructure includes liquefaction facilities, transportation networks, storage, and trading capabilities, strengthening Egypt’s ability to manage its energy sector based on national interests alone.
Warning Against Media Campaigns
He warned against being drawn into media campaigns that attempt to politicize the Egypt Israel gas deal, noting that the timing of its announcement does not change the fact that negotiations were completed earlier under market-based conditions.
Egypt’s Position on Palestine Remains Unchanged
Rashwan concluded by reaffirming that Egypt’s position on the Palestinian cause remains firm and unchanged, based on supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, rejecting forced displacement, and upholding the two-state solution.
He added that Egyptian diplomacy has played a key role in preventing displacement plans and promoting Gaza reconstruction efforts, as reflected in the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, demonstrating consistency in Egypt’s political and moral stance.
