Turkha: Egypt Begins Era of Localizing Drone Production with Turkey

The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), under Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production, signed an agreement with the Turkish company Havelsan to produce the Turkha unmanned aerial vehicle (VTOL-UAV) locally. The move aims to localize drone technology at Kader Factory for Advanced Industries.
The UAV is an advanced system developed by the Turkish defense industry. It features vertical take-off and landing capabilities, integrated artificial intelligence systems, and is designed to perform reconnaissance and surveillance missions in complex environments.
The AOI stated that the agreement aligns with its strategy to deepen local manufacturing, attract foreign investments, and expand export opportunities, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development. AOI Chairman Major General Mokhtar Abdel Latif emphasized that the partnership with Havelsan represents a significant step in transferring advanced defense technologies, meeting local market needs, and opening export channels to Africa and the Arab region.

Havelsan praised the capabilities of Kader Factory and expressed interest in expanding industrial cooperation with Egypt. Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen highlighted the defense and economic cooperation between the two countries, noting that the agreement continues the rapprochement in Egypt-Turkey relations since 2023, which has included several military and economic cooperation agreements signed during reciprocal presidential visits.
