Egyptian Army Listed as a Target in Plan to Undermine Arab Armies Surrounding Israel
Middle East expert Aleef Sabbagh revealed a joint Israeli-American strategy aimed at preventing the emergence of strong armies in the countries surrounding Israel, noting that the Egyptian army could be targeted in the near future. He explained that Washington is implementing this approach through its envoys in Syria and Lebanon, as part of a plan to dismantle military structures and turn these countries into weak entities divided along sectarian lines, resembling the West Bank model.
Sabbagh pointed out that this vision is not new, having been previously expressed by senior Israeli officials such as Amos Gilad, with the objective of consolidating Israeli dominance in the region by weakening surrounding armies. He added that the Egyptian army represents one of the last strong conventional armies in the area, making it a potential target within this long-term plan, coinciding with escalating calls in Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and restructure the Lebanese army.
Sabbagh also suggested that the US-Israeli coordination might extend to other countries, which could lead to new confrontations in a region already characterized by instability. He raised questions about the feasibility of this strategy’s success, given the presence of countries with cohesive military institutions such as Egypt, which plays a key role in maintaining regional power balances.
