Lebanese General Security has successfully foiled a plot to bomb the Nasrallah Shrine in a preemptive and highly coordinated counterterrorism operation, preventing one of the most dangerous planned attacks targeting the capital, Beirut, and other key locations including the Sports City Stadium.
According to security sources, the operation began when agents arrested a Syrian national holding Ukrainian citizenship. Upon searching him, they discovered an explosive device hidden inside a car battery, intended to be used in a motorcycle bombing by remote detonation.
Cross-Border Network Directed from Europe
Investigations revealed a well-organized terrorist network operating between Lebanon and Europe, guided by handlers based abroad. Through advanced surveillance of encrypted communications, investigators tracked down a car loaded with explosives in Batroun, prepared for a large-scale attack.
A rapid response unit launched simultaneous raids in Aaramoun, Khaldeh, and Doha al-Hoss, arresting several suspects of Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian nationalities.
Direct Links to Israeli Mossad
Security sources told “Al Jadeed” TV that four suspects are in custody, with some admitting direct ties to the Israeli Mossad and involvement in sharing sensitive intelligence about recent security incidents in Lebanon.
The mastermind behind the operation was identified as a foreign national named Martin, based in Germany and frequently traveling across Europe. He reportedly coordinated with the operatives via encrypted apps, ensuring that no member of the network knew the others.
Hezbollah’s Security Role in Tracking the Cell
Additional information emerging alongside the news indicated that Hezbollah’s security apparatus played a key role in uncovering the network, as it had been monitoring the suspects for nearly two months after detecting suspicious movements linked to preparations for a bombing during the first anniversary of Nasrallah’s assassination. The group reportedly coordinated closely with Lebanese General Security, which later took over the investigation and pursued the case to completion.
