French Prosecutors Seek Criminal Trial for Achraf Hakimi Over Rape Allegation

French prosecutors have requested that Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) footballer, be referred to a criminal court in Hauts-de-Seine, over allegations of rape dating back to 2023, according to reports on Friday.

Formal Request to Move Forward with Trial

The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office confirmed that it submitted a request to the investigating judge to send Hakimi to trial, based on a rape complaint filed by a young woman. The judge will now determine whether to proceed with the charges in court.

Background of the Allegation

The case stems from an alleged incident in February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman said she met Achraf Hakimi via Instagram and chatted with him for over a month. She later visited his home near Paris, using a taxi reportedly arranged by Hakimi.

According to her statement, the footballer sexually assaulted her during that meeting, despite her resistance. She managed to leave the residence and texted a friend for help. That friend later confirmed the incident in police testimony. The woman initially didn’t file a formal complaint but later shared messages with police that reflected her emotional state after the encounter.

Judicial Proceedings and Hakimi’s Denial

On March 3, 2023, an investigating judge formally charged Hakimi and placed him under judicial supervision, though he was not detained. Throughout the proceedings, Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, claiming the situation was orchestrated to extort money from him.

In a face-to-face meeting on December 8, 2023, the woman reiterated her version of events. Hakimi, however, maintained his position, calling the claims false and financially motivated.

Achraf Hakimi Speaks Out

In a January 2025 interview, Achraf Hakimi commented:

“When you’re successful, you become an easy target. They tried to extort me. That’s why we filed a counter-complaint. Justice is handling things properly.”

Prosecutors Support the Accuser’s Account
