G7 Foreign Ministers Back Ceasefire Between Israel and Iran, Reaffirm Opposition to Tehran Acquiring Nuclear Weapons
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with the High Representative of the European Union, issued a joint statement following their meeting in The Hague on June 25, 2025, where they discussed the latest developments in the Middle East.

The ministers expressed full support for the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, and urged all parties to refrain from actions that could lead to further regional instability. The statement also praised Qatar’s role in facilitating the agreement and expressed solidarity with both Qatar and Iraq following strikes reportedly carried out by Iran and its affiliated groups.
The G7 reiterated its firm opposition to Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon and called on Tehran to halt “unjustified” uranium enrichment activities. The statement emphasized the need to resume negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive, verifiable, and lasting agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
It also urged Iran to fully and urgently cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including providing credible and accurate information regarding undeclared nuclear materials and allowing inspectors access to all necessary sites. The ministers condemned reported calls from within Iran for the arrest and execution of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, labeling such rhetoric as unacceptable.
The statement highlighted the importance of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a cornerstone of the global non-proliferation regime, stressing the need for Iran to remain a party to the treaty and to comply fully with its obligations.
