Gold Reserves: The Ten Countries Holding the Largest Untapped Wealth

With gold prices surpassing $4,000 per ounce, investors are turning their attention to geological maps highlighting the nations with the largest untapped gold reserves.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey report issued in January 2025, Russia and Australia topped the list, each holding an estimated 12,000 tons of economically recoverable gold. The figures underscore the scale of future potential within the global mining sector.

The report comes amid sharp fluctuations in global gold markets, as investors turn to the precious metal as a safe haven during economic uncertainty and growing expectations of an easing in U.S. monetary policy. These dynamics have intensified global interest in countries rich in unexploited mineral resources, particularly as prices rise and demand for stable assets increases.

These figures illustrate how the world’s gold wealth remains concentrated in specific regions, shaping the global landscape of mining investments and commodity markets.
