Google Enhances Smartphone Security with Automatic Reboot Feature
Google has introduced a new security feature within the “Security & Privacy” section of Google Play Services. This feature allows smartphones to automatically reboot if they remain powered off for three consecutive days without being used.
How the Automatic Reboot Feature Works and Its Importance
When enabled, the device enters a “BFU” (Before First Unlock) state, which encrypts the data and disables biometric login methods such as fingerprint and facial recognition. The phone can then only be unlocked using the device’s PIN.
Although a smartphone reboot might seem like a simple action, it plays a vital role in enhancing security. It ensures the device remains fully encrypted and makes it harder for unauthorized users to access it without the password.
A Similar Feature on iPhones
Apple introduced a similar feature called “Reboot After Inactivity” with iOS 18.1, where devices automatically reboot after being turned off for four days.
