Trump praises Gulf leaders’ role, urges greater NATO support, and reveals Iranian “gift” related to oil, gas and Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump said Iran has given Washington a “big gift” related to oil, gas and the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the US is negotiating with “the right people” in Tehran and that Iran has agreed to permanently abandon its nuclear weapons plans.
Trump added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance are participating in talks with Iran, along with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to resolve the ongoing conflict.
Call for greater NATO participation
Trump called on NATO members to participate more in the ongoing military operation against Iran. He expressed confidence that the US’s Gulf allies are “acting very well” in this situation.
NYT: Bin Salman urges Trump to continue pressure on Iran
The New York Times reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged President Trump to continue pressure on Iran, believing that dealing with it requires a firm approach to undermine its capabilities.
The newspaper noted concerns among Saudi and US officials that continued conflict could lead to more severe Iranian attacks on Saudi oil facilities and draw the US into an endless war.
