Washington presents proposal for Hamas disarmament.. movement maintains its refusal

Two sources said that the Peace Board, chaired by US President Donald Trump, presented a written proposal to Hamas on how it could relinquish its weapons, a step the movement has so far refused to take.

The sources explained that the proposal was presented to the movement during meetings in Cairo last week, attended by Nicolay Mladenov, the Peace Board’s envoy to Gaza, and Aryeh Lightstone, an aide to Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Trump’s Gaza plan, which Israel and Hamas agreed to in October, stipulates the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the strip and the start of reconstruction alongside the movement’s disarmament. Mladenov said last Thursday that serious efforts were underway to provide relief within a framework agreed by mediators that could advance Gaza’s reconstruction.

The first meeting of the Peace Board was held in Washington on February 19, and 19 countries signed its charter in Davos in January. The board is tasked with managing the strip under the agreement between Israel and Hamas, with indications that its scope may later expand to preventing and resolving conflicts in other regions.
