International Olympic Committee suspends membership of this State

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, today decided to suspend North Korea’s membership in the International Olympic Committee until the end of 2022.
Reuters reported on Wednesday evening that the suspension of North Korea’s membership in the Olympic Committee meant that it was absent from the Beijing Winter Olympics, after being absent from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“The membership of the National Olympic Committee of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has been suspended until the end of 2022 as a result of its unilateral decision not to participate in the Tokyo Olympics,” Thomas Bach said at a press conference.
Bach added that the decision meant that the North Korean Olympic Committee would not receive financial support during the suspension period and would once and for all lose the support previously withheld because of the sanctions.
