Mutual Warnings Amid Iran Protests
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning in response to ongoing protests in Iran, indicating that the United States could intervene if peaceful demonstrators were harmed. Trump stated that his country is “ready and prepared to act,” in the context of comments on domestic developments in Iran.
The Iranian capital, Tehran, continues to witness protests due to the sharp decline in the local currency’s value. According to available reports, the demonstrations initially began with traders in Tehran last Sunday, protesting rising living costs and economic deterioration, before spreading to other social groups and regions. Fars News Agency reported on Thursday the deaths of two civilians in the city of Lordegan in southern Iran, following protesters throwing stones at government buildings. Police reportedly used tear gas, resulting in injuries and arrests.
Meanwhile, Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani warned U.S. President Donald Trump of what he described as a “dangerous adventure,” stating that any interference in what he called an “internal Iranian issue” could affect regional stability and harm U.S. interests. Larijani emphasized that Iranian authorities differentiate between protesting traders and what he described as “saboteurs,” noting that statements from Trump and Israeli officials, in his view, “clarify what has happened.”
