Iraq Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Liquefied Gas and Begins Exporting Surplus
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced that it has achieved self-sufficiency in liquefied gas and is now exporting the surplus to foreign markets.
Izzat Saber Ismail, Deputy Minister of Oil for Gas Affairs, stated that liquefied gas production has exceeded 8,000 tons per day. His remarks came during a visit to the Middle East Plant for the Manufacturing of Liquefied Gas Cylinders, a private-sector investment project located in Basra, southern Iraq.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the gas industry and supporting private sector investments across all sectors.
The deputy minister also highlighted the government’s success in expanding the use of liquefied gas as an alternative to various liquid fuels by supporting investment projects in the industrial, service, and residential sectors. He attributed this success to the government’s focus on developing the gas industry and encouraging investments across different fields.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Oil stressed that investment projects in Iraq contribute to the advancement of the national industry. The ministry also underscored the importance of supporting projects that manufacture iron or plastic cylinders according to global standards, in addition to establishing appropriate mechanisms for marketing and domestic consumption in coordination with relevant authorities within the Gas Filling Company.
