Israeli Report Reveals Why Hamas Is Avoiding Direct Confrontation with the Israeli Army

An Israeli media report has revealed that the Palestinian group Hamas is deliberately avoiding direct clashes with the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip in order to preserve its military capabilities ahead of a potential large-scale confrontation.

A Strategy Beyond War of Attrition
According to Maariv newspaper, citing a senior Israeli military source who remained unnamed, “Hamas is seeking to maintain its military strength in Gaza and is intentionally avoiding direct combat with Israeli forces.” This indicates a shift in the group’s tactics since hostilities resumed on March 8, 2024.

The Battle Is Far from Over
The same source confirmed that the Israeli army has yet to secure a decisive victory in Gaza and has failed to recover the Israeli hostages still held by Hamas. This ongoing stalemate leaves the conflict open-ended, with no clear resolution in sight.

Hamas Fighters Using Tactical IEDs
The military source also noted that Hamas fighters are relying heavily on improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted throughout various areas of the Gaza Strip. This tactic allows the group to inflict damage and drain Israeli resources without engaging in full-scale battles. According to the source, this approach is designed to conserve energy and readiness for what Hamas considers a future “decisive battle.”
