Kosachev: Russia and the U.S. Move Toward a Negotiation Track Parallel to Europe’s Stance on the War

Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, stated that the recent phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump suggests the emergence of two negotiation groups regarding the conflict in Ukraine. The first group, Russian-American, focuses on prospects for achieving peace, while the second, Ukrainian-European, aims to continue the conflict.

Kosachev explained on his Telegram channel that the European group is attempting to draw Trump toward its position, which supports maintaining pressure on Russia. However, Trump was among the first Western politicians to acknowledge the principle of parity in dealing with Moscow, emphasizing that dialogue with Russia can only occur on the basis of equality in international relations.

A telephone conversation lasting over two hours took place on Monday afternoon between Putin and Trump. Neither side disclosed detailed information about the content, but Russian-American statements indicate potential new approaches to the negotiation process concerning the Ukrainian crisis.
