Kremlin Responds to Trump’s Reduction of Ukraine Ceasefire Timeline
The Kremlin has acknowledged recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his decision to shorten the previously announced 50-day timeline for achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump also indicated he is not currently seeking high-level communications on the matter.
This was stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a press briefing, where he said, “We have taken note of President Trump’s statement yesterday.” He emphasized that the Kremlin prefers to refrain from offering evaluations of Trump’s comments.
On Monday, Trump announced he had revised the 50-day period he set earlier this month for reaching a resolution in Ukraine, reducing it to between 10 and 12 days. He cited the lack of tangible progress in ending the conflict as the reason, stating, “There is no point in waiting any longer.”
Previously, on July 14, Trump had declared that the United States would impose 100% tariffs on Russia and its trade partners should Moscow fail to reach an agreement to resolve the conflict in Ukraine within the designated timeframe.
Peskov also commented on the broader state of U.S.-Russia relations, noting a clear slowdown. He described the normalization process between Moscow and Washington as neither positive nor negative, but acknowledged that it is not currently progressing in a constructive manner.
In response to a question on whether the slowdown is linked to challenges in the Ukrainian settlement process, Peskov replied, “Yes, there is a slowdown. At the moment, the normalization of relations is not proceeding as hoped.”
