Lebanon: Second Round of Municipal and Elective Elections Begins Today
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun visited the Internal Security Forces’ operations room in Ashrafieh to monitor its work during the second round of municipal and elective elections in the North and Akkar governorates. Aoun praised the efforts of the security forces and the ministries of the interior and justice, noting that the first phase of the elections went smoothly, though he expressed hope for higher voter turnout.
President Aoun called on citizens to vote based on development projects, not personalities, emphasizing that the elections are not political but developmental. He stressed the importance of preventing money from influencing voters’ choices and urged reporting any bribery attempts. He also mentioned that the judiciary is investigating bribery cases in Mount Lebanon, with some individuals already detained.
Aoun confirmed that the success of the municipal and elective elections reflects Lebanon’s commitment to meeting its constitutional deadlines. He pointed out that this success would leave a positive impression on Lebanon’s stability abroad.
