Houthis launch missile and drone attack on Marib
Marib attack: 14 casualties including two civilians and fears of higher toll after 10 missiles strike
Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthi) group launched a missile and drone attack on Friday on the city of Marib and its surroundings, killing two civilians and injuring 12 others, in an initial toll of 14 casualties, with more than 10 missiles hitting the province, amid a disruption of communications and internet services in the city since last night.
Yemen’s Health Minister Qassem Mohammed Buhaibeh said in a Facebook post that the shelling carried out by the Houthis on Friday on residential areas and displacement camps in Marib city killed two civilians and injured 14 others, in an initial toll.
He added that his ministry had directed hospitals and health facilities to raise their state of alert and readiness, and to mobilize all available resources to provide medical care to the wounded.
More than 10 missiles strike and drones downed
Yemeni media reported that the Houthis targeted Marib province with more than 10 missiles, some of which struck camps on the outskirts of the city, while others hit open areas near displacement camps.
Air defense units of the government forces shot down two drones, while six other drones reached scattered targets surrounding the city, with successive explosions heard north of the city and near the camps and residential and military areas.
The attack was accompanied by a disruption of telecommunications and internet services in Marib city and the Al-Abr area since last night.
Government: Targeting civilians places international community before its responsibilities
The Yemeni health minister called on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and protect civilians from continued targeting.
This attack comes after a relative lull in Yemen since 2022, with the return of strikes between the Houthis and government forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition in recent weeks.
