Moldova Urges Decisive Action on Ukraine Ahead of NATO Summit

Moldovan President Maia Sandu asserted that ending the conflict in Ukraine “can only be achieved through the use of force,” calling on the international community to intensify military support for Kyiv, especially by providing advanced air defense systems to counter ongoing Russian attacks.

Her remarks come amid growing regional tensions and the impact of the war on Moldova, which is dealing with a continuous influx of Ukrainian refugees and a severe energy crisis due to its reliance on Russian gas. Sandu, known for her pro-Western stance, is focused on strengthening Moldova’s ties with the European Union and NATO, as Western positions on Ukraine continue to evolve.

Sandu warned that any hesitation or weakening of support for Ukraine could be misinterpreted by Russia as a green light for further escalation. Her statement coincides with preparations for the upcoming NATO summit and heated European debates on the level of military aid to be provided to Kyiv.
