Munich Security Conference: Syrian–U.S.–SDF Meeting Discusses January 30 Agreement
The Munich Security Conference witnessed a high-level diplomatic meeting bringing together Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the conference held in Munich, Germany.
The trilateral meeting was convened within the framework of the conference’s official program, which is regarded as one of the leading international forums dedicated to addressing global security challenges.
According to sources at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the discussions focused on the recently concluded agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, in addition to reviewing the current situation in Syria and the broader region. The meeting marked the first high-level contact between SDF leadership and the Syrian Foreign Minister in the presence of U.S. officials, approximately two weeks after the two sides reached a political understanding on January 30.
The meeting reflects international interest in security and political arrangements in Syria amid recent developments between the Syrian government and the SDF. The Munich Security Conference continues through February 15, with the participation of more than 60 heads of state and government and approximately 1,000 participants from 120 countries to discuss global security challenges.
