NATO–Russia Escalation Intensifies After Remarks on Possible Pre-Emptive Strikes
In a new episode of the growing NATO–Russia escalation, Moscow said on Monday that comments by the head of NATO’s Military Committee regarding the possibility of launching pre-emptive strikes against Russia were “irresponsible” and aimed at undermining efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.
NATO Weighs More ‘Aggressive’ Measures amid NATO–Russia Escalation
According to the Financial Times, NATO is considering adopting more “aggressive” and pre-emptive measures in response to cyberattacks and airspace violations it believes originate from Russia—moves that further reflect the rising NATO–Russia escalation in recent months.
General Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, told the paper that the alliance is assessing stronger responses to Moscow’s hybrid warfare tactics, adding that “pre-emptive strikes can be considered defensive measures” under current conditions.
Moscow Warns NATO as NATO–Russia Escalation Deepens
Russia strongly condemned the remarks. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called the statements “extremely dangerous and utterly irresponsible,” asserting that they show NATO’s “readiness to pursue a path of escalation rather than support efforts to end the Ukrainian crisis.”
Zakharova warned that those making such threats “must understand the risks and potential consequences, including for the alliance’s own member states.”
Hybrid Attacks Across Europe Fuel NATO–Russia Escalation
Europe has recently witnessed a rise in hybrid-warfare incidents—some attributed to Russia and others still unclear—including the cutting of undersea cables in the Baltic Sea and a series of cyberattacks across the continent.
These incidents have further fueled the ongoing NATO–Russia escalation, prompting allied states to reassess their defensive posture.
