North Korea considers the growing military cooperation between the United States and Japan to be gradually evolving into a “nuclear alliance.” An article published by the Korean Central News Agency states that this alliance targets neighboring countries, including North Korea, which, according to the author, justifies Pyongyang’s enhancement of its defensive capabilities to achieve regional balance and protect national sovereignty.
The article details the cooperation between Tokyo and Washington, noting that in June, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the “extended nuclear deterrence” guidelines. This included a visit to the strategic B-52 bombers base capable of carrying nuclear warheads, alongside conducting simulation exercises for their use. North Korean analyst Lee Myung Nam, in the same article, accused Japan of seeking to transform into a military power through its alliance with Washington.
