Russia Dismisses Western Claims as “Nonsense,” Warns of Preemptive Strikes

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev issued strong remarks on Thursday criticizing Western positions on the conflict in Ukraine. According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, Medvedev described recent Western statements suggesting that Moscow could launch attacks on Europe as “utter nonsense.”
Medvedev accused Western governments of spreading “hostile and misleading information” regarding Russia’s intentions, emphasizing that Moscow retains the right to respond, including through preemptive military strikes if deemed necessary.
He further stated that the disarmament of Ukraine could represent the only viable way to prevent the country from being drawn into what he called a “bloody geopolitical game” orchestrated by external powers—a reference to Western support for Kyiv.
Medvedev: West Waging “Actual War” Against Russia
Medvedev also claimed that the West is engaged in more than just an information campaign, asserting that it is conducting an actual war against Russia. He alleged that Western elites are seeking to retaliate against Moscow in response to what he referred to as “their own past failures.”
Nuclear Rhetoric and Political Escalation
Over recent years, Medvedev has repeatedly made statements involving direct threats of nuclear force, warning that Russia may use the full extent of its military capabilities to defend its national security. These statements have been cited in previous reports by Reuters.
