Russia-North Korea bridge: “Open dialogue channel” for closer cooperation summer 2026

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced that the bridge over the Tumen River on the Russia-North Korea border, set to open in summer 2026, will become a “channel for open and constructive dialogue” between the two countries.

Zakharova said during a ceremony connecting the bridge’s superstructure in the border village of Khasan in Primorsky Krai that the project goes beyond being an engineering task, symbolizing both countries’ desire to strengthen friendly ties and expand regional cooperation.

She expressed hope that the bridge, which allows year-round vehicle traffic, would improve trade, economic, and humanitarian exchanges between the Russian Far East and North Korea. The bridge construction agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Pyongyang summit in June 2024.
