Russian-American Tensions Across Multiple Fronts: Ukraine Encirclement, Nuclear Tests, and Trump’s Threats to Venezuela

Russian-American tensions continue on multiple fronts, with recent developments including Russia’s encirclement of Ukrainian forces, concerns over U.S. nuclear tests, and controversial American actions toward Venezuela along with President Trump’s threats.

The Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russian authorities have observed significant interest from Western journalists regarding the invitation extended by President Vladimir Putin to visit areas where Ukrainian forces are encircled. Peskov told the Russian news agency “Novosti” that many Western journalists expressed their willingness to visit these areas, while no Ukrainian journalists have announced their intention to participate.

Visit Restrictions and Kyiv’s Warning

Peskov noted that the visit cannot take place at this time due to Kyiv’s refusal of the proposal. He explained that Russia is prepared to ensure the passage of foreign journalists to the besieged cities, including Krasnoarmeysk, Dimitrov, and Kupiansk, with a temporary suspension of military operations to guarantee their safety. Peskov also expressed concern over potential provocations from the Ukrainian side. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry warned of measures against journalists visiting these areas.

Lack of Information on U.S. Nuclear Tests

In a separate context, Peskov confirmed that Russia has not received any clarifications from the United States regarding the nuclear tests announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. He noted that Moscow does not have precise information on the types of nuclear weapons planned for testing.

In the same context, Robert Floyd, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, stated that any nuclear tests could undermine international security and stability. U.S. Representative Dina Titus also warned about radiation risks and environmental impacts, noting that the move would conflict with arms control and non-proliferation treaties, while Peskov confirmed that the current nuclear test moratorium remains in effect.

U.S.-Venezuelan Tensions: Trump to Maduro: “Your Days Are Numbered”

Regarding Venezuela, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that U.S. military movements near Venezuela increase regional tensions, emphasizing that responsibility lies with Washington. He added that Venezuela is making efforts to prevent drug trafficking, noting the absence of links to drug gangs as claimed in some reports, in line with previous United Nations and U.S. State Department data.

Ryabkov also confirmed that Moscow and Caracas maintain open communication channels and work to strengthen institutional cooperation. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that “Maduro’s days as president are numbered,” while media reports indicated an increase in U.S. military presence off the Venezuelan coast, potentially involving up to 16,000 troops, a move that could heighten tensions between Washington and Caracas.
