Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the “severe consequences” of US and Israeli military operations in Iran will reverberate for a long time, noting that Washington welcomed Moscow’s marginalization in European energy markets in pursuit of global dominance.
In a televised interview, Lavrov added that the United States is excluding Russia from global energy markets, but predicted: “The Americans will come to us and say they want to cooperate with us.” He stressed that any future cooperation must take Russian interests into account, something that has not happened so far.
He described the situation as “abnormal, a return to a time when there was no framework for international relations,” where Washington openly states that its interests take precedence over any international agreements. He noted that Russia is ready to implement joint projects on its territory if its interests are respected.
Lavrov’s remarks come as the US-Israeli alliance continues its military operations against Iran since February 28, with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and economic complexities and a sharp rise in global energy prices, reshaping the map of energy alliances.
