Sudanese Sovereignty Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan affirmed that the Sudanese armed forces do not belong to any party, faction, or tribe, stressing that the army is governed by laws and regulations, coinciding with ongoing military developments between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in Blue Nile and Kordofan.
Al-Burhan: Army belongs to no one
In a speech during Khartoum State’s celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the armed forces’ founding, al-Burhan said: “The army is Sudan’s army, and belongs to no one,” stressing that no party, faction, or tribe exists within the military institution, and that the leadership’s role is to develop the armed forces and prepare them to defend the nation.
He directed Khartoum State government not to burden citizens with fees and taxes, to work on enhancing social solidarity, and to encourage and facilitate voluntary return to the capital.
Al-Burhan calls for return to Khartoum and launches national dialogue
Al-Burhan had earlier affirmed the leadership’s determination to develop the armed forces to face various internal and external challenges, stating that “the army and the people are in complete harmony,” and called on Sudanese people to return to their homes, stressing that Khartoum has become safe.
He also revealed the start of a dialogue with “national forces” to involve them in governance institutions.

RSF seizes “Agro” and vows to continue advancing
On the ground, the Rapid Support Forces announced their seizure of the “Agro” area in Blue Nile State, stating their intention to continue advancing toward other areas.
Army destroys vital bridge in Blue Nile
In response, Sudan’s army destroyed the bridge linking the villages of Bakuri and Amoura over the “Tamt” creek in Qaysan locality, according to “Sudanese News” newspaper. The bridge was a crossing used by RSF to move vehicles and supplies.
The newspaper added that the bridge is the only link between the two villages and the city of Al-Damazin, serving as a vital route for citizens and goods, especially with the onset of autumn and rising water levels.
RSF had announced earlier this week that it had seized parts of Qaysan and Al-Karmak towns in Blue Nile, while the army continues its military operations elsewhere.
Drone shot down in North Kordofan
In North Kordofan, the army announced it had shot down an “FH-95” drone in the Gabrat Al-Sheikh area, marking the fifth of its type since mid-June and the first near Al-Obeid since July 15.
Gabrat Al-Sheikh witnessed fierce clashes on Thursday, during which the army reported repelling an RSF attack involving, according to its account, about 250 combat vehicles.
This came after the army announced late July that it had regained control of Bara, Gabrat Al-Sheikh, and Umm Sayyala towns, as fighting continues over supply routes in North Kordofan.
The region holds strategic significance as it lies on routes connecting central and western Sudan, with both sides seeking to strengthen their positions on fronts linked to Kordofan region.
At a time when al-Burhan affirms the army’s independence from parties and tribes, calls for return to Khartoum, and launches a national dialogue, field battles continue between the army and RSF in Blue Nile and Kordofan, with mutual control over strategic areas, amid UN and international estimates indicating tens of thousands killed and nearly 13 million displaced since the war broke out in April 2023.
