Russian Deputy Defense Minister Visits Damascus to Strengthen Syria-Russia Relations and Military Ties
A high-level Russian delegation, led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Bek Bekurov, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, for an official visit lasting several days, according to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The statement noted that Syrian Chief of Staff Major General Ali Al-Nassan received the delegation at the military command headquarters in the capital.
The statement highlighted that the visit aims to develop and strengthen military cooperation between Russia and Syria in ways that serve the mutual interests of both countries. Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Moscow’s readiness to support Syria during its transitional phase, including assistance in addressing economic challenges, describing Damascus as a traditional and significant partner in the Middle East.
In a related context, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia and Syria have substantial potential for commercial and economic cooperation. He noted that discussions between the Russian and Syrian presidents focused on developing bilateral relations and leveraging shared opportunities.
