The Israeli tourism sector announces its losses

The Israeli Ministry of Tourism announced that the Israeli economy lost 12.1 billion shekels ($ 3.6 billion) due to the sharp decline in tourism movement over the first nine months of this year.

According to ministry data, the month of September alone witnessed a decrease in the number of tourists by 96%, as 15 thousand and 100 tourists arrived in Israel, compared to 405 thousand the previous year.

In her statement, Israeli Minister of Tourism Orit Farkash HaCohen said: Rapidly reopening the tourism industry could become part of a solution to the economic challenges currently facing Israel, and attributed the decline in the number of tourists to the outbreak of the Corona virus in the world.

Tourism, one of the main engines of the economy, has declined 76% since the beginning of 2020, to record the number of tourists coming to Israel to 783,000, compared to 3.295 million in the period between January and September 2019.
