Trump: August 1st Will Be a Great Day for America – No Delay, No Extension
U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States will proceed with imposing tariffs on over 14 countries as scheduled on August 1, with no delays or extensions. Trump posted on his Truth Social account: “The August 1st deadline remains unchanged and will not be extended. A great day for America!”
On July 7, Trump sent letters to the leaders of 14 countries, informing them that tariffs ranging from 25% to 40% would be imposed on their exports starting August 1. The countries included in the decision are Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Serbia, Thailand, Tunisia, South Africa, South Korea, and Japan.
According to the White House, these countries are expected to negotiate trade agreements with the United States before the beginning of August, in order to avoid the implementation of tariffs.
On July 11, Trump notified Canadian leadership, and on July 12, he informed Mexico, that tariffs of 35% and 30%, respectively, would be applied to their exports. Trump explained that the decision was based on the failure of both countries to prevent drug trafficking into the United States.
