Trump–Bin Salman Meeting Sends Broad Regional Political Signals

During the fifth Gulf–U.S. summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and former U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of strengthening joint coordination to ensure the stability of the Middle East, reaffirming their commitment to de-escalation across the region.
Bin Salman Highlights Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman underscored the summit as a reflection of collective commitment to cooperation. He praised Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria and called for a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue and an end to the war in Gaza. He also reiterated the need for arms to remain solely in the hands of the Lebanese state, reaffirming the Kingdom’s support for Lebanon’s stability efforts.
Trump Criticizes Biden’s Policies
Former President Trump hailed Gulf nations as now being at the forefront of building a stable and prosperous Middle East. He criticized the Biden administration’s policies, which he claimed had “empowered Iran and its proxies,” and expressed willingness to strike a deal with Tehran—provided it halts support for conflicts and abandons its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Trump also called for the release of hostages in Gaza, affirming his support for the people of the enclave. He described the push to lift sanctions on Syria and normalize relations with Damascus as a “positive American step.” On Lebanon, Trump emphasized the importance of giving Beirut a chance to distance itself from Hezbollah’s influence, while voicing his intent to expand the Abraham Accords.
