Trump Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza, Announces Plans for Unrestricted Humanitarian Aid Distribution
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to support efforts toward a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the urgency of addressing what he described as a severe humanitarian situation, particularly with regard to access to food for children and civilians in affected areas.
“Achieving a ceasefire in Gaza is possible, and we are working hard to make it happen,” Trump stated, adding that “residents can see food just miles away, but they cannot reach it.”
Trump said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the need to adopt a new approach to the situation in Gaza. He also announced plans to discuss the matter with the British Prime Minister in an upcoming meeting and confirmed that he had contacted the President of the European Commission, who pledged support for humanitarian needs in the territory.
Addressing the issue of hostages held in Gaza, Trump acknowledged the difficulty of securing the release of those still in captivity, stating that the group holding them has refused to release them. He noted that U.S. authorities are sometimes aware of the hostages’ locations but avoid direct military action due to concerns for their safety. He also highlighted previous successful efforts to free a significant number of hostages, some of whom, he said, visited the White House afterward.
Regarding the broader American role, Trump expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of recognition for U.S. financial contributions to Gaza. “We have provided a lot of money to Gaza and never received a thank you,” he said. Nevertheless, he announced a plan to establish food distribution centers in Gaza in cooperation with several countries, stressing that these centers would operate without restrictions.
