Trump’s Tariffs Fuel Calls to Boycott Major U.S. Brands in India

Calls to boycott American products are gaining momentum in India after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 50% tariff on Indian imports, sparking debate over the future of trade relations between New Delhi and Washington.

According to a report by Reuters titled “In India, Trump’s tariffs spark calls to boycott American goods” published on August 11, 2025, the boycott movement targets popular U.S. brands such as McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Apple, and Amazon, while encouraging consumers to support domestic products under the “Made in India” slogan.

Entrepreneurs and public figures have used social media to urge investment in local businesses and the creation of homegrown alternatives to foreign brands. Meanwhile, groups linked to the ruling party have organized small rallies promoting Indian-made goods.

Despite the boycott sentiment, Tesla opened its second showroom in New Delhi, attended by officials from the Indian government and the U.S. embassy, underscoring the continued presence of American companies in the Indian market.
