The Turkish newspaper “Zaman” reported that the textile sector in Turkey is concerned about the return of Syrian refugees to their country, as their return would result in the loss of thousands of workers in the sector.

The head of the Turkish Textile Board, “Muzaffer Cevizli,” stated that the number of Syrians working in the sector constitutes 10% of the total workers in the company, which is 150,000 out of 1.5 million. Their return would negatively impact the textile industry.

Cevizli added that there is difficulty in finding employees, as young people in Turkey are not willing to work in the textile sector.

It is worth mentioning that after the fall of the Assad regime, Turkey witnessed an increase in the number of Syrian refugees returning to their homeland. Ankara claims that it encourages Syrians to voluntarily return to their country.
