Widespread Protests Against Deportation Policies
Since Friday, the capital of California has witnessed ongoing demonstrations organized by activists and civil rights groups advocating for migrant rights. Protesters have condemned the government’s deportation campaigns as “harsh and inhumane,” with increasing pressure from human rights organizations to halt what they describe as forced deportations.
U.S. National Guard Presence at Key Locations
On Sunday morning, National Guard forces were seen stationed around the federal complex in downtown Los Angeles, particularly near the Metropolitan Detention Center, which had been the scene of limited clashes over the past two days. The deployment signals a notable shift in the government’s response to the protests.
Trump Escalates the Rhetoric
Reacting to the developments, Donald Trump posted a statement on his Truth Social platform:
“If Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles can’t do their jobs — which everyone knows they can’t — the federal government will step in to stop the rioting and looting the way it must be stopped.”
Meanwhile, Stephen Miller, former White House Senior Advisor, described the protests as “an insurrection against the United States.”
Calls for Calm and Peaceful Demonstrations
Local authorities have urged residents to remain peaceful and avoid high-tension areas, stating that they are closely monitoring the situation. So far, no direct clashes between protesters and law enforcement have been officially reported.
