Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responds to Iraqi accusations of involvement in Baghdad attacks

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry denounces Iraqi National Security Advisor’s statements, says baseless accusations “unacceptable” and harm bilateral relations.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded on Tuesday to Iraqi allegations regarding Kyiv’s involvement in attacks inside Iraq, officially denying any connection to illegal activities on Iraqi territory, considering that making such statements without evidence is “unacceptable” and contradicts principles of mutual respect.

The ministry’s spokesperson said in an official statement: “The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry rejects allegations of Ukraine’s involvement in illegal activities on Iraqi territory,” emphasizing that “there are no facts or evidence supporting these claims.”

Kyiv: No official communication from Baghdad regarding the allegations

The statement added that “Iraqi authorities have not conveyed to Ukraine, through diplomatic channels, any relevant information or concerns,” noting that Ukraine learned of these allegations through the media, not via official channels.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry considered that “it is unacceptable for a senior official of a friendly state to make such statements without evidence,” stressing that this “contradicts the principles of mutual respect and harms Ukrainian-Iraqi relations.”

Baghdad silent.. as Kyiv affirms commitment to cooperation

No official comment has yet been issued from the Iraqi side regarding the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s statement, while Kyiv affirmed its commitment to strengthening political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation with Iraq, describing it as an “important partner in the Middle East region.”

Kyiv called for “appropriate handling of the publication of these baseless allegations,” according to its statement.
