Under Al-Shara’s Leadership: Decision to Form the National Security Council in Syria

Syrian President for the transitional period, Ahmad Al-Shara, has issued a decision to establish the National Security Council, aimed at coordinating and managing security and political policies. The council is to convene periodically or at the request of the President.

The decision stipulates that the council will be chaired by the President and will consist of:

The Ministers of Defense, Interior, and Foreign Affairs.

The Director of General Intelligence.

Two advisory seats appointed by the President based on competence and expertise.

A specialized technical seat to oversee technical and scientific affairs related to the council, also appointed by the President.

The presidential decree states that the tasks and working mechanisms of the National Security Council will be determined by the President in accordance with the public interest, ensuring coordination among all state institutions.

Decisions related to national security and challenges facing the state will be made in consultation among the council members.
