UNRWA: No Aid Left to Distribute in Gaza
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned of a severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, with famine expected to spread across large areas in the coming days. Adnan Abu Hasna, the agency’s media advisor, stated that thousands of Palestinians are now without food, and UNRWA no longer has supplies to distribute.
He stressed that bringing in food aid has become an urgent priority, noting that around 95% of Gaza’s population relies on humanitarian assistance. He warned of a large-scale catastrophe if the blockade continues.
Abu Hasna explained that UNRWA continues to provide life-saving services through 9 central clinics and 50 mobile ones, treating around 18,000 patients daily, despite a critical fuel shortage. He added that about 70% of Gaza has been classified as dangerous or displacement zones, confining residents to less than 100 square kilometers.
He also pointed to the spread of diseases such as hepatitis, meningitis, intestinal infections, and respiratory illnesses due to water contamination and malnutrition. He said that 90% of Gaza’s population, including children, suffer from varying levels of malnutrition, and that 60,000 children are experiencing severe anemia.
Abu Hasna stressed that a ceasefire and the reopening of border crossings to allow the entry of urgent humanitarian aid are the only options to prevent disaster.
