US-Iran military escalation: US Central Command describes Iranian claims as “false,” Tehran confirms its nuclear plant is safe, and Guterres warns of “catastrophic” consequences of any new escalation
US Central Command (CENTCOM) categorically denied claims circulated by Iranian media about the killing of three US soldiers in Kuwait as a result of Iranian strikes, confirming that all personnel are “safe,” coinciding with an official Iranian denial that the Bushehr nuclear plant was targeted, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that a resumption of large-scale combat operations between Washington and Tehran could lead to “catastrophe.”
CENTCOM: Iranian claims “completely false”
US Central Command issued an official statement responding to reports carried by Iran’s Fars news agency about the killing of three American officers in a drone attack targeting US military sites in Kuwait, with the US command describing these claims as “completely false” and “misinformation promoted by Iranian entities,” confirming all personnel are safe.
This denial comes amid intense military escalation between the two countries, as US forces have conducted several rounds of airstrikes targeting more than 300 Iranian targets, in response to drone attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran denies targeting of Bushehr nuclear plant
In a separate context, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization denied the accuracy of reports circulating about an attack on the Bushehr nuclear plant, confirming it is operating normally without interruption and all its units and facilities are intact.
The organization stated that “the Bushehr plant is in a completely normal, safe, and stable condition,” adding that “any information regarding the facilities and activities of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will only be provided through the organization’s official information channels.”
Bushehr provincial authorities also denied that the plant was targeted in any American attack, stating that reports about radioactive material spread or any radiation leak at the plant’s waste site are completely unfounded.
Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, had warned that attacks on the Bushehr nuclear plant could have “grave consequences for all Arab Gulf states,” calling for an immediate halt to such strikes.
The Bushehr nuclear plant, located on the Gulf coast, is Iran’s first and largest nuclear facility, and was built and put into operation with technical assistance from Russia.
Guterres warns of “catastrophe” and calls for restraint
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that resuming large-scale combat operations between the United States and Iran would lead to “catastrophe.”
Stephane Dujarric, the Secretary-General’s spokesperson, told reporters that “the Secretary-General reiterates his statement that a return to large-scale combat operations could have catastrophic consequences for the peoples of the region, international peace and security, and the global economy as well.”
Guterres called on the United States and Iran to exercise restraint, expressing concern over the recent escalation between Washington and Tehran.

Oman talks amid escalation
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis continue, with the United States and Iran holding negotiations in Oman in an attempt to salvage the memorandum of understanding signed between them last June, under which Tehran committed to ensuring freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.
