US-Iran talks: Tehran delegation arrives in Islamabad for April 11 talks with Pakistan mediation
An Iranian delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in the Pakistani capital Islamabad to hold talks with the United States to find ways to resolve the conflict and reach a long-term agreement.
The delegation included Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, Defense Council Secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The officials arrived at Nur Khan Air Base under the escort of the Pakistani Air Force, according to Pakistani sources speaking to Reuters.
Iranian state media said the talks with the United States would begin if Tehran’s “preconditions” are accepted. The discussions focus on solidifying the truce, permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz, and discussing the clauses of Iran’s ten-point agreement. Trump had threatened to use military force if negotiations fail.
Reports indicated that the Pakistani Air Force deployed fighter jets to escort the plane carrying the Iranian delegation, a step aimed at ensuring the flight’s safety until its arrival in Islamabad.
