Tehran: Halt wars, Strait of Hormuz open for friends, no response to US plan comprising 15 points, Araghchi tells Trump: show respect

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran does not accept a ceasefire, but seeks a complete halt to wars across the entire region, adding that his country’s conditions are known. He affirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera that Iran is ready to repel any ground operation, expressing hope that his opponents would not make a “miscalculation.”

No direct talks, demand for compensation

Araghchi denied the existence of direct negotiations with the United States, explaining that exchanging messages with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff “does not constitute a negotiating process.”

He clarified that Iran has not yet responded to the US 15-point plan, noting that they have “some observations” in this regard, and that Iranian conditions include providing guarantees against a repeat of the attack and paying compensation for damages.

Strait of Hormuz: Open for those not fighting Iran

The Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is “fully open,” but is “closed only to those who are fighting Iran,” noting that Tehran has taken all measures to ensure the safe passage of friendly ships. He added that the strait could become a “bridge for peace.”

Warning to Trump: Address Iranians with respect

Araghchi stressed that threatening Iranians is “unacceptable,” calling on U.S. President Donald Trump to address the Iranian people “with respect.” The minister’s remarks came as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran continues for over a month, with ongoing exchanges of strikes and a de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
