According to Reuters, user reports on outage-tracking platforms surged before service began returning gradually later in the day. Associated Press also reported that some customers saw “SOS” indicators or “no service” messages on their phones during the disruption.
Verizon said it will provide a $20 account credit to impacted customers, which can be activated through the company’s app, while business clients will be contacted directly, according to ABC News.

Regulators monitor the incident as emergency-call concerns surface
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is monitoring the incident and reviewing the circumstances of the disruption, Reuters reported. Separate reports indicated that some local alerts warned that 911 calling could be impacted for certain users during the outage window in specific areas.
Verizon has not provided a detailed technical explanation for what caused the disruption. The company said service has returned and that engineering teams are continuing to monitor performance to prevent a recurrence.
