England’s best chance came in the 37th minute when Rice missed a clear header from the centre of the area that went just over the bar.
At the start of the second half, England continued their pressure. Anthony Gordon shot in the 57th minute, but the Ghanaian goalkeeper saved it. Noni Madueke followed with a shot from the right that deflected off defenders. In the 61st minute, Anderson missed a header from Rice’s cross that went over the goal.
England’s pressure reached its peak in the 70th minute when Bukayo Saka missed a golden opportunity with a header from Madueke’s cross that went over the bar.
In the 86th minute, Ghana’s crossbar was rattled by a header from Nico O’Reilly from Reece James’ cross, then Harry Kane followed with a shot from the centre of the area that went high.
England’s tally reached 18 shots, but they remained unable to score.
Ghanaian counter-attacks threaten England’s goal
In contrast, Ghana relied on counter-attacks that posed a threat on several occasions.
In the 50th minute, Antoine Semenyo shot from the right but it hit the defenders. In the 79th minute, Alidu Seidu shot from the centre of the area, but it also deflected off the defenders.

Football drama: Bellingham and Queiroz.. touchline clash ignites the match
If the result on the pitch ended in a goalless draw, the events off it were much hotter.
Before the end of the first half, Bellingham committed a strong foul on Jerome Opoku near the technical area, but escaped a yellow card.
After the final whistle, while players were heading to the dressing rooms, a heated verbal exchange erupted between the Real Madrid star and a member of Ghana’s coaching staff, John Paintsil.
Bellingham appeared furious, with both parties exchanging harsh words, while Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz attempted to approach the English player with provocative comments, before his assistants intervened to calm him down.
Anthony Barry, England’s assistant coach, and Morgan Rogers, Bellingham’s teammate, rushed to calm the player and prevent him from continuing the argument.
Spence refuses to shake Partey’s hand.. ethical reasons
Before kick-off, another scene sparked controversy.
Djed Spence, the Tottenham defender, refused to shake hands with Ghana star Thomas Partey during the traditional pre-match handshake.
Partey faces charges of rape and sexual assault in Britain, and awaits trial after pleading not guilty to all charges against him.
The English FA left it to the players to decide whether to shake Partey’s hand or not, having previously considered the possibility of preventing them from greeting him.
England vs Ghana match.. sharing the top spot
With this result, England remained top with 4 points, the same tally as Ghana, with the Three Lions ahead on goal difference, while Croatia and Panama sit bottom with zero points each after losing their first-round matches.
In today’s match, Ghana proved they are not just guests in this group, earning a precious point from England that could be the key to qualification.
As for England, they will need to improve their attacking efficiency in the coming matches if they want to progress beyond the Round of 32 on their way to the title they last won in 1966.
