Russia to Afghanistan and Pakistan: “You realize the futility of arms”.. border conflict began October 2025
Russia’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said Moscow remains ready to mediate in resolving the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, but has not received any request to do so from either side.
Kabulov added that Islamabad and Kabul realize “the futility of armed confrontation,” particularly given recent de-escalation steps during Eid al-Fitr. He called on both sides to prioritize cooperation and work together to counter militant groups present on Afghan territory.
The current escalation is a continuation of the conflict between the two countries that began in October 2025. Afghanistan launched a military operation against Pakistani forces along the entire Durand Line border in response to Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory. Both sides exchanged fire, with Pakistan later declaring “open war.”
Islamabad has accused Kabul of harboring militants, a claim Afghan authorities deny. Despite both sides repeatedly announcing ceasefires, they have failed to reach a peace agreement along the border.
