Arab League comments on comprehensive conference in Riyadh on Yemen’s South

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the invitation by Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi to hold a comprehensive conference in Riyadh. The meeting aims to discuss fair solutions to the Yemen’s South issue, with participation from various southern components.

In a statement released on Saturday, Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s response to the request from Yemen’s legitimate leadership and its readiness to host and sponsor the conference, providing a framework for dialogue on issues related to Yemen’s South.

The Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, Jamal Rushdi, conveyed that Aboul Gheit highlighted the historical dimensions of Yemen’s South, describing aspects of it as fair, and stressed that these issues should be addressed through dialogue within a comprehensive Yemeni framework, noting that imposing the status quo would not serve this cause.

The spokesperson also noted that the Arab League’s stance, as reflected in its successive resolutions on the Yemeni crisis, emphasizes commitment to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, while supporting any dialogue efforts aimed at addressing disputes within this framework.
