The Autonomous Administration links military and media escalation to concerns over forced displacement in Aleppo

The Media Center of the Autonomous Administration in northeastern Syria denied the circulating reports about a truce in the city of Aleppo, describing them as inaccurate. The Media Center of the Internal Security Forces in Aleppo (Asayish), in a statement, said that reports of a local ceasefire are part of a deliberate media misinformation campaign, noting that all initiatives proposed by the Internal Security Forces to achieve a de-escalation have failed.

The statement clarified that military operations continued until the evening of Wednesday, January 7, with continuous shelling and drone flights over residential neighborhoods in the city. It added that four consecutive attacks were carried out using heavy military vehicles, which were reportedly repelled by the Internal Security Forces with the support of local residents, according to the statement.

The Media Center noted that residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods reaffirmed their determination to stay in their homes and reject any attempts at forced displacement amid escalating security tensions. The statement also emphasized that attempts to impose new realities through military escalation or media coverage could have further consequences, holding the attacking party responsible for any potential outcomes.

In a related development, Amnesty International expressed concern over the continued displacement of residents following clashes in predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo. In a statement, the organization warned of a potential escalation between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), calling on all parties to comply fully with international law, protect civilians, and ensure unhindered access for humanitarian aid.
