Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said he does not call for confrontation with Hezbollah but does not accept “submitting to its blackmail,” stressing that the government’s decision to expel the Revolutionary Guard from Lebanon is being implemented.
In a televised interview, Salam added that the government is seeking to form a unified national delegation to negotiate with Israel, aiming for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon. He affirmed that his government has abolished the concept of a “ban on negotiations with Israel.”
The prime minister noted that accusations against the government of negligence toward the displaced are aimed at “diverting attention from holding Hezbollah accountable,” saying: “It is not the duty of the Lebanese to avenge Khamenei.” He stressed that Lebanon will not return to being a platform to harm Arab countries.
Salam’s remarks come as fighting escalates between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanese border since March 3.
